     History
The speculated source of the Peace Church Cemetery haunting is "Badman Billy Cook". William Cook Jr., began a tortured childhood in Joplin, Missouri. He started his murder spree on December 30, 1950.  For 22 days he traveled the Southern states on a senseless rampage. He kidnapped 9 people, murdered a family of five and a salesman made six. He was eventually caught in Mexico, sentenced to 300 years in 1951 for the murder of the Mosser family and put to death in the gas chamber in San Quentin for the murder of the salesman. His last statement - "I hate everybody's guts and everybody hates mine." His body was returned to Joplin, he was buried at the Peace Church Cemetery, his grave, unmarked.  For more information on Billy Cook go to our links page.
