History
The Freeman Hospital opened in
1922. The John W. Freeman family donated their home, located at 20th
and Sergeant, as the site for the first Freeman Hospital in honor of
their late son Orley. In 1925, a 75-bed addition was added to the
original home. In 1975, the new Freeman Hospital opened its
doors to the public. Freeman Hospital on 20th and Sergeant was
closed and sold to a private owner There is evidence that the hospital
may have been used as a church at one time. The first floor of the
hospital was used as a private residence by the current owners for over
15 years. The hospital is currently unoccupied and used for storage.
Paranormal Accounts
The owners felt there was a demonic
presence outside and one of them did not go on the upper floors.
Maintenance workers refuse to go to the 4th floor.
Personal Experiences
Time after time investigators
experienced unsettling incidents on the 4th floor of this unoccupied
hospital. Three times different groups of investigators had to leave
the 4th floor. There were unidentified noises and massive feelings of
"we shouldn't be here". One investigator actually became physically
ill, symptoms included nausea and massive headache. Two investigators
were alone on the 1st floor. While walking down a hallway they noticed
that a radio turned on that had not previously been on. Not only was it
on it was blaring loud. Upon further investigation they found the
radio, confirmed that no one else was around and walked out of the
room. At that time their flashlight battery completely drained and went
black. One investigator turned around to snap a picture to use the
flash to navigate by and caught the photo of the collection or orbs
shown below. Many theorize that the radio came on as a warning, the
batteries drained to draw in power and the orbs are the start of an
apparition being formed. However, due to the instability of the
situation the investigators were forced to leave. After the incident
other investigators searched the first floor for anyone unauthorized
who may have been present. No one was found and no alternate
means of entrance or exit was located. During the search of the 1st
floor a female investigator bent over in the room containing the radio
and was pushed so hard, by an unseen force, that she had to put her
hand down to brace herself from falling. One of the obstacles of
the investigation was the size of the building. We had to run wires up
stairs and through elevator shaft. While setting up equipment and
running a wire from one floor to the other through the elevator shaft
one of the investigators knocked on the elevator door and asked
“did you get it”. He was asking another investigator
who he thought was on the lower floor. He heard an exact knock as his
in the elevator and assumed it was his partner. However, when he turned
around his partner was behind him working on the camera across the
room. After experimenting we found that whatever the phenomena was that
it would knock on command. If they knocked three times, it
knocked three times. This went on for about 5minutes. We
however did not make it up with the video camera in time.
